Lois E. Harrill Senior Center's Volunteer Garden Workday:
Wednesday, May 17th, 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM
Everyone is welcome!
The mission of the Senior Center is “to create an environment that encourages independence in older adults and promotes their active participation in all aspects of their lives”.
While there is already an established garden space at the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center, the garden beds are overgrown and are in need of some long overdue Tender Loving Care. Boone is dominated for many months by a large student population, overshadowing an often forgotten age demographic, the senior population. Both age demographics are important, but how can the two better help each other? We are all young at one point, and will hopefully live happily into the age of many of the adults who are a part of the Senior Center community. With that being said, join us in the Senior Center garden to bridge the gap of youth and elderly involvement in Watauga County and help promote food sovereignty for ALL.
We will be working in the garden space to the right of the Watauga County Human Services Building , 132 Poplar Grove Connector, Boone, where the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center is located.
This is a beautiful green space that has wonderful potential to grow into a place for both the seniors in Watauga county to grow healthy food and create a greater relationship with community members.
The team heading the project includes passionate members a part of Watauga County’s Food Council. If you would like to get more involved with transforming our local food system in Watauga County and are interested in joining the Food Council, please contact email@example.com.
