Everyone is welcome!
Rescheduled for Monday, May 29th, 3:00-5:00 PM
Cove Creek Elementary School is a K-8 public school in Watauga County. It has an enrollment of about 290 students and it is located in a beautiful setting in Vilas among woods and pastures. The campus also has a stream running through it and a nature trail.
The CCS garden started a few years back with four raised plant beds and a greenhouse. With the help of the community, ten more beds were built in a dedicated garden space during the "Blooms and Buzz" inaugural event in March 2017. The goal of this event was to bring teachers, parents, students and neighbors together to raise environmental awareness in the community. There are now a total of 14 raised beds maintained by the EcoRaiders environmental club and several classes. There are also flower patches and a compost station, as well as an outdoor classroom in the works. The school welcomes help from community members! Students are excited for their first crops this year of spinach, broccoli, summer squash, strawberries, kale and lettuce among others.
The school's address is 930 Vanderpool Road, Vilas, NC 28692. It's right off 421 heading towards Tennessee, about 7 miles from downtown Boone. If you have any problems finding it or have questions about the garden, please call the school at (828) 297-2781.
